A WordCamp at Chennai
As users of WordPress software suite we are very familiar with the term “WordCamp” which is defined by Jeffro2pt0 in simple terms like this:-
WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people.
We read announcements and details of events that are conducted during these camps that are being conducted at many places over US and Europe.
Why not one such in India? That too at Chennai (because I live there. Simple)? Swell idea, what? No wonder, I always get them. all in my diet minus fish, that Jeeves’ wisdom gets attributed to by Plum!
It may not be on a big scale. It may not boast of WordPress pundits like Matt, Lorelle and their ilk. But why not make a start in a humble way?
I appeal to users of WordPress living in and around the city of Chennai, India to please spill a few bytes on the comment box about their willingness to organize/participate in the proposed get-together, so that we can proceed further in that direction.
ZDNet’s description of WordPress
ZDNet has vividly and succinctly portrayed WordPress in its download page like this:
WordPress is a personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. WordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL and licensed under the GPL. It is the official successor of b2/cafelog. WordPress is fresh software, but its roots and development go back to 2001. It is a mature and stable product. We hope by focusing on user experience and web standards we can create a tool different from anything else out there.Version 2.3, named “Dexter” for saxophonist Dexter Gordon, adds native tagging support, plugin update notification, URL handling improvements, and other new features.
I really feel nostalgic about my b2 days - I miss you, Michel Valdrighi!
My presentation at FOSSCONF
I made a presentation on WordPress at FOSSCONF - the Conference of Free and Open Source Software conducted by Indian Linux Users’ Group Chennai and NRC-FOSS at Chennai, India on 2008-02-01.
Here is the certificate to this effect followed by the presentation:

WordCamp 2007 : Podcasting with Wordpress
Wordpress is the best free blogging software. It is expanding its vista beyond text and pictures. The latest in thing being “Podcasting”, to wit, publishing your voice and video directly in a post.
You can here about it from the horses mouth from Stephanie Booth, who was lucky to atend the Camp!
Matt Mullenweg - the Genius!
Matt Mullenweg is instrumental in creating the most famous blogging software in open source, viz: Wordpress, the latest edition of which has been downloaded 1.17 million times so far!
There is an active community working strenuously in creating zillions of themes and plugins to add variety, flavour and functionalities to the software.
This blog of mine as well as the one in my native language “Thamizh” run on Wordpress.
You can read more about Matt from this story on Sydney Morning Herald.
My new Blog
I have started a write about some (mildly) technical matters of everyday usage in this blog:

Visit, visit and visit! (no “h” anywhere but - no extra “t” here too :))
S.K
To two or not to Two
You can call it the biggest dilemma of the homo-sapiens (of the blogosphere) since the notorious “to-bite-or-not-to-bite-the-forbidden-apple” one!
Here is the rest of the story:
The Blogosphere of a particular kind went gaga about the release of Wordpress 2.0. Not without reason since the latest version contains some real eye candy stuff that refreshes in real time like the Gmail does when you get a new mail (AKA conversation in Gmail lingo!). They call it Ajax. Okay, okay, it is not for us Muggles!
Here is what the official Wordpress announcement says on the features of WP 2.0:
